Koh Lipe - Day 1
Went to Koh Lipe with Pat, we took the speedboat from Telaga Harbour - return ticket costed RM228.00. Picture below is the building of the ticket counter there and the departure/arrival area.
We boarded Miss Charolais with two Swedish couples while the other passengers that did the day trip boarded Flying Fish. The boat took 1 hour 30 minutes exactly to reach Koh Lipe waters. Much to our surprise we had to move to longtail boat - costed B50 per pax to send us to the beach.
After 5 minutes waiting at the check in hut, we got our passport. Straight ahead to our hotel - Bundhayan Resort that located exactly next to the check in counter. For B2000 we got aircond. room, with sitting toilet, shower, two small bottles of water, bath foam, shampoo, two soap bars, two glasses, and two shower caps - double bed - and buffet breakfast.
It was already 1130 - Thai time - hence we went to look for lunch and 5 minutes walked through the beach we found a small restaurant next to Fora Diving Centre. Price was quite decent. I ordered shrimp fried rice for B60 and Pat asked for shrimp tom yum with white rice for B100. Big bottle of water was B40.
After lunch, we went to the beach in front of the hotel. The hotel provides beach towel, umbrella and sundecks as well - although for two later items we need to fight to get them. The beach was packed with French that day and most of them took two umbrellas although they were not using them and refused to give them to others.
This was the conversation:
"May I take one of the umbrellas, please."
"No, I use them."
"But you are alone."
"Yes, but I want to use two."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"But you are not even sitting under the umbrellas."
"But I want to use them. I want to use two."
End of conversation.
Pat managed to take the umbrella though from a couple that actually went for snorkeling trip and hence were only back about 2 hours after that. Mad!
Day ended very fast. The water was clear. Coral was nice though I hardly saw any fish.
We walked through the other side of the beach and found plenty of bars. Reggae band from Langkawi was playing that night as well at Chill Bar with other reggae band from Thailand. We found plenty of massage huts as well with decent price and made a mental note to do it the next day.
After look around and comparing the price around, we decided that actually eating in the restaurant hotel - BBQ place was cheaper and better setting than other place. We ordered white snapper (B300/kg) - B160, 2 tiger prawns (B700/kg) - B100, 2 squids (B100/kg) - B60, mussels (B100/kg) - B30, an oyster (B50 each). Total BBQ was B400. We ordered Greek Salad for B175 for our side order (last pic). What a feast!
The day is ended by lots of bubbles in our small verandah.
