Perhentian Island - Day 5

I had to go to Kota Baru to stay overnight there as my flight to Penang was early in the morning. Pat can stay in Perhentian though as her flight was in the evening from Kota Baru.

I stayed at Lee Guest House. I was the only one stayed there and it almost like I rented the house actually. The place was clean. Albeit it was faraway from the city, Mr. Lee drove me around for lunch and dinner. Even if I want to hang around in town, he will give a free tour as well. Did nothing much as well that day except went for lunch at Tesco, took a nap, went to night market and went back to sleep.

I went back to Langkawi two days after that. Back to the guest house!

Perhentian Island - Day 3 & 4

Breakfast was much better as more people came in - if not filled the resort. It was full buffet from day 3 onwards.

We booked ourselves for snorkeling trip for day 3 and day 4 in the morning (RM40 including snorkeling set and life jacket/3 hours). The water was not as clear as Koh Lipe probably due to the weather BUT we saw more here than ever. Plenty of fish, lively and colorful corals, etc. Pat and the other girls from Singapore even saw turtles, shark, big clams and stingrays.

This was the view of village in Perhentian Kecil. School and few shops selling vegetables etc were located here.

We snorkeled in front of Perhentian Island Resort. The view was good but we thought due to the many people snorkeled here, the variety of creatures here were not as good as the one in Teluk Dalam.

The fishermen boats stopped at one beach as there was fresh water there. They took dingy to shower there.

We joined intro dive by East Marine on day 3 afternoon. It was one of most memorable experiences for both of us. After a brief lesson, Pat managed to dive up to 6 ms and she cannot stop her grins for the next few days!

Perhentian Island - Day 2

Breakfast was a bit sad. This was due to the fact that only few guests at the resort hence instead of full buffet, they offered ala carte menu which either American breakfast or Malaysian breakfast. That was not dampened our spirits though.

Pat took me for a walk through the beach and we scanned the menu on the restaurants along the beach to plan for our lunch.

An English guy stayed in tent at the worst part of the beach. We still cannot figure out why. The pic below was the former "Everfresh Chalet". It was apparently not so fresh anymore. Rubbishes from the sea drifted to this part of the beach.

Pics above are typical taxi stand here. The speedboat will take us to other part of the island or the other islands. Most will use this facility to go to Long Beach in Perhentian Kecil for some fun or Perhentian Island Resort at the back of this beach. There is a trail from our resort to PIR but I was too sick to walk for 45 minutes. We talked to other guests that went through the trail and they said it was not worth the effort.

I took a nap after that but Pat kept going on to other side of the beach and she found a nice spot hidden behind a big rock. Took me in the afternoon, we managed to get our solemn moment at "Pat's rock" until three boys came for fishing on the rock in front of us.

The left one was the rock that we used to chill down. The rock in front of it covered us from the outsiders while the trees provided us a nice shade and breeze. Total bliss!

The lagoon has clear fresh water with few dragonflies and small fish jumping around. There is a waterfall behind it and we love the vibe from the whole area. Tranquil and peaceful.

After lunch, I again took a long nap while Pat went for the beach again. It was a relaxing day for us. I do hope I did not ruin Pat's holiday as I was so terribly sick due to the med.

Perhentian Island - Day 1

Flight was ontime this time and we reached Kota Baru around 8 am. Pat and I shared a cab to Kuala Besut with one young couple from London. They headed Perhentian Kecil while we went to Perhentian Besar. Again, despite of opening a guest house, I am such a pampered person that need 24 hours electricity and aircond.

We arrived at Kuala Besut Jetty around 910 am. As Zack has arranged transfer and our room, we went to the travel agent that handle our reservation. We've been told that due to rough sea we only can aboard 10 am speedboat to Arwana Resort - our accommodation for next 5 nights.

We used the spare time to have our breakfast. Could not find anything that impress me in the menu, the lady owner gave us her breakfast. Typical nasi dagang with fish and egg. A bit spicy for me but Pat liked it.

Below is the pic of the jetty.

The boat had us, a Swedish couple that stayed in Impiani (not recommended due to the location), and four local guys that went to Perhentian Kecil Jetty. The sea was rough and it became one 45-minutes bumpy ride, however I got scared more because the local guy sat next to me merely 3 minutes after the ride got seasick. Beg your pardon, this was speedboat! I rushed to lift my bag and my feet up and endure the roller-coaster ride with that position. Mad.

We reached the resort finally and greeted by the staff that carried our bags through small narrow pontoon. Cool! The room was nice as well. Spacious room with settee and TV plus balcony outside. Perfect for our reading session in the afternoon.
The resort was quiet and the diving shop next door just opened that day as well. Even the resort seemed like just open that day. The convenience shop and the restaurant were all kind of in gear up situation when we arrived.

I took a nap while Pat explored the beach. Lunch was at the hotel which was surprisingly not so expensive as we though especially with the generous portion that they gave. While Pat went to the beach and swam, I went back to catch another nap. The drug was made me giddy most of the time. Dinner was at the hotel again continued by watching movie on the big screen played there. Not the best idea to watch "Guardian" by Kevin Costner though after the rough sea that morning.
Picture below was the breakfast place.

Pic below was the restaurant. We had lunch and dinner there. Food was decent and not really overpriced plus in the evening during low season it played movie on big screen in the evening.
